Is This Good News for Game of Thrones Season 8? | Game of Thrones Prequel

1401 ratings | 37288 views
Game of Thrones Season 8 will not be airing until 2019 but we got some news today on a possible prequel! The Game of Thrones Prequel won't be airing until a year after Game of Thrones Ends but, A pilot has been given the Green Light and We are told it will cover the Age of Heros! The Game of Thrones Prequel announcement had me upset at first and I'll explain why! I'm not sure this is good news for our Season 8 expectations! They say it's about the Age of Heros but we will also likely learn the true origin of the White Walkers? If thats the case it's likely to cover the Dawn Age, because thats where the Pact was Made and as I've been saying The Timelines are not what we think they are! Thanks for Watching! Please Subscribe! I have 2 theories which I think you may call tin foil 1) What if everything thats going is really the 1st long night? Hear me out... When bloodraven tells bran "you cant change the past the ink is dry" what if he knew that bran once he became the new 3 eyed raven would try to go into the past and change things but would only make things worse...think about the movie the butterfly effect the guy kept trying to go back in time to fix things but just made them worse..so each time bran goes back he changes something for the worse and keeps going further and further back until he finally decides the best way he can change things is to create the story of the long night as a warning and try to prepare the people when the time is right..because it was supposedly 8000 years ago and who would be around to verify? It just becomes a story that keeps getting passed down from generation to generation...And this would support the theory that he was every Brandon Stark in history, Bran The Breaker ,Bran The Builder who built winterfell (supposedly believed to with stand attacks and with escape routes in case anything went wrong) and Storm's End (believed to be able to withstand any storm I.e. a heavy blizzard that the night king brings)He created the story to be passed down through time and although he can't remember he knew it would eventually be told to him and he will begin to seebthe clues to stop the Night king(I still believe thats Bran) And he ordered them to turn him into the night king believing that he could alter history by controlling the army of the dead but gets stuck in the man he wargs into( and thats why they have such a strong connection) 2)What if Bloodraven was the 1 behind the whitewalkers all along? He wants payback for being exiled from kings landing... And he needed bran to live his second life because of bran's powerful warging abilities... He had the night king make it look like he killed him for bran to think he was dead when actually he was just downloading himself into bran( I know this is partly a theory already out there) but I look at this in 2 ways first as I described previously but what if bloodraven could actually be BRANDON STARK?!?!? and he knew the night king touched bran because it already happened? I know a little tin foilly and might be a reach but sometimes the hardest questions have the easiest answers. Just my thoughts but hopefully I can get some feed back on this...LOVE THE CHANNEL BTW 😎💯

omg omg omg omg the long night!!!! yes, i'm a little bit excited for it. in fact, i'm more excited for it than i am the last season of GoT for some reason
lathumpipe (2 months ago)
Maybe we don't get the answers we're looking for in season 8 GOT because we assume Jon and Dany win? Remember, there are no good and evil. Bad guys (Night King) are heroes to somebody else.
Joe Ann Todd (2 months ago)
Because GRRM kind of washed his hands of GOT after Benioff and Weiss went off in a different direction after the books stopped guiding them, but he is heavily involved in the prequels.
Poison Rationality (3 months ago)
I think the Walkers were created first - before the long night before the breaking of the arm of dawn. There may not have been a previous long night. They fought for the children and spread over the continents. They were beaten back - perhaps by Dragons, etc. and later returned in the long night totally out of control of the Children for reasons we can only guess. They then created the Nights King from a Stark and he led them North. Still doesn't explain why they are back now. We may only get that much to end GoT TV show, the prequels can then fill in back story on the Walkers Origin and the motivations involved. Not all I wanted, but somewhat satisfying, and yet drives market to the new prequel.

I consider Season 8 as the second half of season 7 rather than its own season, similar to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2, as 6 episodes is way too short.

I am excited to see a spin off series getting underway to continue to explore this universe and hope it will be an impetus for other spin off series to get off the ground ; hopefully centering around concepts like the Doom of Valyria , Ageon's Conquest and Robert's Rebellion. My only worry is that this Age of Heroes / Long Night prequel series may compromise the ending of GOT . I just hope there will not be too many major issues left to ambiguity to be answered by this prequel series ; such as the true resolution of the original Long Night , more concrete details about creation of the white walkers and the Night King , more concrete information on Azor Ahai & the Last Hero , some details pertaining to secrets & creation of Winterfell etc. GOT needs to have a fantastic ending with some interesting revelations about the past to close out an incredible series , i would not like too many open ended questions as i think it would devalue such a great series to end it that way. This Age of Heroes spin-off seems excellent conceptually but as i said i worry it will impact the ending of GOT with answers that should be revealed at the end of Thrones being left unknown to be taken up by the prequel series. I am excited for this and hopefully other prequel series , and i am realistic now that perhaps less answers than we want will now be revealed in GOT instead saved for the prequel series. I just hope we get enough relevant much theorized information about past events , people , occurrences etc in the last episodes of GOT to be satisfied giving us the ending a series of that caliber & its fans deserve.

Seems like 90% of people r on the dick suck band wagon and I personally am just as excited as getting a fucking root canal. I would do rather see the adventures of Dunc n Egg. 1000's of years before GOT I dont care for. And the woman writing the pilot episode people say she wrote a few movies, one of which is "Kickass" I'm sorry but is that a bragging accomplishment? That movie was as interesting as getting punched in the face over n over.
Mark Caldwell (3 months ago)
Shawn Edwards It is a weak ass movie. Notice everyone is still excited for the kickass trilogy today? Ooops

Gray, I have listened to you and the Golden Company members for a little while now and I am a GOT junky. I was thinking about what you said and about some of the writing in the books. I am not sure which book the conversation between Littlefinger and Varys takes place, but I remember Varys saying that he was doing everything for the good of the realm. Then Littlefinger asks if he knows what the realm is and explains that the realm and everything attached to it is all a lie. It is a story that the people that have lived from the time of Dunk and Aeg to the present and probably longer than that. People have played an extended game of telephone and we might just find out that pretty much everything we know is total BS and that everyone has done dirt and that is why they have so many political issues, the white walkers (because someone lied via the pact), and the corruption that comes from chasing power. The old men at Winterfell also said you cannot believe stories you hear at a woman's tit re: Old Nan and her stories, so it feels like he might have been warning us not to trust what we hear from the beginning. But who knows. . .maybe I am wrong.
LeftOverWoman321 (3 months ago)
The more I think about GRRM's last remark about "...it's not the story you think you know." The less excited I am about the new series. If they are planning to undo all we have just learned as was done with the Star Wars Saga where Luke was turned into a grumpy old curmudgeon, then count me out! This is a marvelous story I don't care to have it deconstructed for more $.

When I first read the article I was super excited. And then I started to wonder the same thing. HBO has to realize that with the followers that GOT has, they can't screw this up and turn it into just a money maker. The lady who will be the show runner, Jane Goldman, I'm not familiar with any of her work, but she is working with GRRM it should be awesome, at least I hope. I hope in S8 they give us enough info for closure of the Ice and Fire series.

I’m really excited for the Prequel because that means we get more GoT content after season 8, BUT I would still be fucking PIIIIIISED if we don’t get the origin or explanation for the White Walkers and what they really want. OMG I’m getting upset already just thinking about it. That would pissed me off soooo much. Sadly I wouldn’t put it passed them though. Fuckers.

I hope Vladimir Furdik is signed on to play the NK in the prequel! When he replaced Richard Brake, the transition didn't bother me too much since we hadn't yet seen the NK's creation, hence his "human form". Now that we have though, I really hope Furdik can come back for the prequel to provide some character portrayal continuity. I think though, for a prequel, this is a great choice to begin with, like you said. I'm not too nervous about closing loops in S8 because GoT has always done a good job generally in not leaving plots dangling, whether we agree with their choices or not when it comes to giving them closure. I think we'll find out enough about the NK to close out GoT...the rest, including more detailed backstory for the NK prior to being turned, the WW, etc., is perfect for a brand new story.
Tresha Powell (3 months ago)
i was upset that we will have to wait on the prequel for pay-offs. but i guess that means more GoT. "the story is not what we think we know" upset me, coz now i have to wait. the golden age of heroes to the darkness????? Did the children make another NK when the andals came a burning? wasn't the LN before the AoH? Bran the Builder built the Wall. He didnt build it b4 the LN. Ugh HBO!
Joe Ann Todd (3 months ago)
I’m not unhappy at all. My biggest thrill was that Benioff and Weiss will have nothing to do with this prequel. Once they got to the point in the show where they ran out of book - the show went downhill. That is why things seemed so rushed, and there was just too much pandering of their actors during awards season, at the shows expense. The answers they gave in the BluRay extras they talk about changes they made from book to movie was to specifically to show more of certain actors. “But didn’t you want to see more of Robert Madden”. Last season it was Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington. Good writers don’t do that when it’s at the expense of the show. Season 7 could have been a whole lot better if it made sense. If they cut out all the unnecessary crap that was put in, they could have taken a moment or two to adhere to the timeline. Emilia Clark and Kit Harrington are already good actors, Benioff and Weiss were basically saying hey, we’ve been doing this series for so long our actors should get awards just because. Once they ran out of book material and.had to depend on their own imaginations, (even with GRRM’s) notes on how he was going to end the books, they couldn’t cut it. They also left so much important stuff out of the story they did have I’m sure it had to upset GRRM so he wasn’t going to have anything to do with what they were doing and I can’t say I blame him. He was a complete gentleman about it and didn’t say anything bad about them but if 1 + 2 = 3, those of us who were paying attention could easily figure it out. And the fact that GRRM will be involved in this new pilot really gives me hope for a great story. With only 6 feature film episodes left in the last season I really hope Benioff and Weiss concentrate on the story and let the actors do their jobs. I don’t need to see anymore Dani and Jon looking longingly at each other unless it furthers the storyline. Stop with the emoting and allow them to act.

i think that the Children obviously knew how to make white walkers before they made the Night King in the vision we saw, maybe we will see how and why they learned how to do that. im sure they want to complete GoTs plot within the show. Sounds like the spin off will have lots of kingdoms fighting each other and the children in their prime. will probably see the beginnings of Valyrians and how the Andals came to cross over into Westeros,
Laura H (3 months ago)
to be honest it makes perfect sense if you look at it from Martin's point of view. He promised us bitter sweet ending with GOT. After finale we all will be like 'wtf?' and the ending might leave us puzzled or mad, but in a prequel we should get answers that will explain why GOT ended this or that way. Like missing puzzle piece, it should all make sense then. Beside you can't really expect D&D to cover and explain every secret and got mystery in 6 episodes. There are too many loose ends and characters. That way they will take time and do entire white walkers origin properly and not half-assed

Rhiannon Purves (3 months ago)
I think its because the Night King they've been showing wasn't the first Night King?
Rhiannon Purves (3 months ago)
But that doesn't necessarily mean its all the story, Or even the first time they've created a Night King, Maybe the first long night was forced back due to the death of the original Night King. If those babies are where the real white walkers develop from, then they would need a new Night King to continue making White Walkers. For this to work I think the time line we've been given is off. And we need to know more about why the children of the forrest would do this and then work together with the First men to repel them. I Imagine we wont get anywhere near the full story on that in season 8. Just enough for it to make some sense. I think it's clear GRRM has been misleading us about the children of the forest and the time line of the first men and everything that happened around then.
GrayArea (3 months ago)
Rhiannon Purves very possible but bran says you created them when he comes out of the vision, maybe he isn’t a white walker, maybe he was just made to control them or something
no 1 (3 months ago)
Maybe what they mean is showing the cruelty of man and why the white walkers needed to be created in the first place kind of reversed roles and show the evil that man does.
IostsouI (3 months ago)
I'm not sure you will get what you want though. I imagine GOT season 8 will be rushed, season 7 was. At this point D&D just seem to want really good 'action' and not a lot of much else. As for the prequel George was and is by all accounts upset that the show have surpassed his books and I know that HBO have the rights to the franchise as a whole but I can't see George falling into the same mistake again. Surely he wont give them the untold secrets he has yet to write until he has written and released them via the yet to come books?.. I would guess that it would mostly be based on TWOIAF and whatever George is prepared to tell them or their own version that will be vastly different from George's.
MisterPlanetarian (3 months ago)
Age of heroes and Old Valyria were always my main areas of interest. Never really Asshai or that stuff.
MisterPlanetarian (3 months ago)
Theres no solid account for any of that, just more or less plausible speculation right now. Besides, to my knowlege Valyria is too far vest to have been part of the golden empire of the dawn proper, if you go by whats avalible. I could see the valyrians being some sort of exiles/breakoff part of it who brought dragons with them when they resettled there, but again that's not confirmable right now. One thing is clear, the Valyrians absolutely grew to become a power in their own right, stronger than any that came before them. They were also the only power in the known world to use dragons at the time. That makes me personally believe that the valyrians were simple shepards who stumbled upon dragon eggs in valyria (how they got there is a different story, likely placed there before the Valyrians themselves showed up). I don't believe that the valyrian people are of Assha'i origin. As a student of histry, most of the Yi-ti/Asshai legends remind me alot of pre-neoassyrian mesopotamia with god kings ruling for like 5000 years etc. Those stories are likely very unreliable, as is the recordkeeping from those times.
GrayArea (3 months ago)
MisterPlanetarian So IMO Asshai And Old Valyria are basically the same side of a coin. I’ve been examining the timeline here recently and it seems that it is very likely that Valyrians were like The Asshai’i apart of the Great Empire of the Dawn.

One thing they forget about in 1,000s of years of evolution is advancement of the race!. After all, humans went from primitive living standards to men on the moon in about 2 or 3 thousand years. It is doubtful to me that these game of thrones characters would be stuck, the same way they were many 1,000s of years ago.

For what I've heard, The Night King from the show is just one of many created in the past. The ritual from the show could in fact just be the moment of the creation of the last Night King created. But there could be, way before that, many other main white walkers. It could even be possible to learn that the Night King from the show was actually an Ice baby that took 8 thousand years so grow up. And Bran did actually saw the first one ever created.
Born Medicated (3 months ago)
How are you upset about the HBO show? I have no expectations what-so-ever. You're already disappointed and it doesn't even have an out date. I know we're going to be disappointed with whatever they come with this is just the beginning. There's only 6 left if course its going to be rushed through

No not really because they are not sticking to the books, they are writing and making stuff up and it will not have nothing to do with GRRM creation but their own. I personally think it will fail, not be as bit as GOT.

The prequel‘s will cover the journeys of Bran the builder. The age of heroes starts with the pact between the first man and the children of the forest I’m guessing brand will be there in some form or capacity and it will follow him throughout his life. From building storms in as a youngster the traveling to the north to the long night when creating Winterfell creating the wall founding house stark. This makes the most sense to me because it says it’ll cover the age of heroes and the Starks it doesn’t say anything about any of the other houses so I think it’s going to focus just on the Starks.

Strange question, I've noticed Sansa wear a circle with a line through it symbol for the last two(?) seasons. I bring it up because I've just noticed that same symbol on the 'cave painting' photo in this video? Does anyone think it means anything????
loukou amanda kelly (3 months ago)
for me maybe im wrong but before i fought d&d didn't care about the night king origins but for me it means that the show Will end on a twist about the white walker that needs an explanation so a prequel this is how i see this
MrReded69 (3 months ago)
I would like to see the war between the First Men and the Children of the Forest and their fellow elder beings(GIANTS!!!). It could show the creation of the White Walkers, the Breaking of the arm of Dorne, the pact of the Isle of Faces that ended the war and the War with the Others that saw the founding of the Night Watch.
Steph Willer (3 months ago)
Full disclosure I really don't think they should have any prequels or spin offs, its a money grab and people are going to get tired of it and it will diminish the love for the original. That aside I think you're being very optimistic about this series. Pretty sure they said they were making like 3 of these prequel shows so I doubt this one show will cover all that history, they will hack it up into little pieces to milk it for all it's worth and it will be torture. If I remember correctly George said they wouldn't do Robert Rebellion or Dunk and Egg. The Age of Heroes would be interesting but I would want to know what the other shows are going to be about because I think that will dictate a lot of what we will and won't get from each.

I'm saying it all over the place, but this prequel takes a lot of responsibility for telling the whole story off of D&D for season 8. I don't think we'll get the answers that should be fully fleshed out in season 8. I'm really not psyched about this. I truly hope I'm wrong. But if season 7 showed anything, it's that the show creators are bored and over GOT and are ready to rush through the last season.

I would like to see a full on season of the rise of Valyria and the Targaryens in Essos. A single episode on the capturing and taming of the first dragon from a volcano would be amazing. Plus I’m biased because the Targs are easily my favorite house. Baratheon is a very close second place given the fact they are genetically half Targaryen. I could go on forever lol

Okay I think I'm missing something... according to your description in the intro they are going to start AFTER the Age of Heroes which is well after The Pact, the last event in the The Dawn Age. So it seems to me the story of the White Walkers is either going to be a 'backstory' sequence or simply a story told by one of the characters from the Andal era. But you all seem to be speaking as though they will actually start with The Pact. Which is it? After the Age of Heroes or before?
Dolores Byrd (3 months ago)
Okay I get it, when they mentioned us finding out the real origins of the White Walkers, you were saying in that in your opinion that have to go back further to properly do that. Don't be surprised though, if it ends up being just a 'backstory' told by some existing character or a 'flashback' kinda sequence to avoid going all the way back. I get you though, thanks for answering!

Dolores Byrd it’s going to be a multi continent thing just like Game of Thrones. They say it’s covering the Age of Heros.. but in order to find out the true story of the WhiteWalkers it’s going to have to start before the pact in my opinion. The pact came about because of the white walkers. If this explanation makes sense

if you thought S8 was gonna end giving us all the answers we wanted you haven't been paying attention lol

We won't know the white walkers back story in GoT because those people from back then aren't alive anymore. People read, hear, tell, and remember these stories, but no one knows for sure exactly what happened back then. There's plenty of people in Westeros who kinda know, but we, the audience, will now know for sure.

I like the idea of it

I honestly don’t think GRRM will give away his life’s work to be butchered by D&D and cram it all up in 6 episodes of GOT, I think the show will give us enough to end the main story line of Westeros vs WhiteWalkers but the real juice he will save it for his books (which he hasn’t released yet and I think is for this very same reason), we will learn everything we need to know about WW in his books, hence the name “winds of winter”.

I am the absolute minority here and I know it, and I also respect the wishes and desires of all the fans, who want these add-ons, but I will give my 2 cents on the matter risking some criticism. The show is amazing and the books are insane BUT.... I HATE THE IDEA. Personally for me, and this is just my opinion, we are about to descent in the weirdest fanfic crap. GRRM gives only outlines of stories and some very basic facts, without details, which is essential for a myth or a legend(vague, mystical short story with suprising turns, dire consequences and usually an epic conclusion). Considering episode 6 and 7 of the last season, I fear the writers will dump a ton of generic fantasy plots in a sequence of epic battles and over the top cgi creatures and fireworks, thus morphing the entire storyline into a typical LOTR fantasy saga. If you are going to show me a cunning Lann the Clever who is just very smart and evil and calculating from the start(just because this is all we know about him)- for the entire season or seasons, then I will pass. I don't want to see a 'superman' Aegon flying north, west and south in a predictable series of military victories with dragons. This is just boring as hell in my opinion. For me game of thrones is so captivating because it progresses from a personal micro-perspective of individual characters with their decisions and mistakes. Since we don't have the material for that and only some general history, I am a bit worried. Not really a fan. Just my personal opinion. And I swear, IF I EVER SEE ASSHAI DEPICTED LIKE THE -KITCHY 5TH GRADE LEVEL VISUALIZATION OF MINAS MORGUL, I will TOTALLY CHANNEL MELISANDRE and TORCH MY TV SET.

The end of the Dawn Age and the Long Night are thousands of years apart I thought.

They could still put enough of it in season 8 to answer some questions and still leave enough for the prequel

i understand your concern and love your videos, for me all i want is to understand the Night King’s motivation in S8, so no that doesn’t necessarily have to go all the way into the history and lore. whose to say there weren’t multiple night kings as well, that may not be the NK we see in the show right now that he children of the forest first created, it’s fine to me, it could work. but they gotta include his motivations in S8 in some way But i’m so excited either way!!!!

I'm excited but dam it does cast questions on what we will find out in season 8. an from the pilot description of what we think we know is very telling on what we still won't know once season 8 wraps

Bran is probably focused on this night king, the vision with Leaf is not the original Night King, he is the supposed 13th Lord Commander Snow. Bran thinks he saw the first one being created and so does Leaf, but he sees the current night king being made, the last hero. I don't think Bran will go far back enough.

I think it’s totally ridiculous to have a series that covers thousands of years!! Not much room for character development is there, if you’re going to be doing a hundred or more years per episode? Unless of course they think they can stage this prequel out across many decades. We’ll probably all be dead from the natural disasters caused by climate change plus nuclear war, or plunged into a long night of our own before we find out where the White Walkers really came from. And, where they “really” came from we know already anyway, they came from George’s imagination.

I don't like it at all. But I understand in a way why it's happening. First of all there are two more books. Winter and Spring. How many reveals does GRRM want to save for Dream of Spring? How much of the story of Spring has he actually decided? He hasn't finished Winter yet. He knows how it ends, he told D&D, but how much has he actually told them about the real history? I absolutely hate the idea of a prequel that puts all the reveals back in the box. In fact this news is actually making me loose interest in season 8. This was a stupid time to tell everyone that everything they've been waiting to find out isn't going to be a part of season 8. I have no patience or interest in a prequel series like this. It's frustrating enough waiting for the books to be written. Finding out everything we wanted to know is going to be hacked out of season 8 in order to milk more time and money from me makes me angry. This is like seeing the Hobbit ruined by stretching it over 3 movies just to milk it for more money. Officially angry and possibly to the point I abandon both show and books in disgust.

I never thought the scene with the NK making is true. I think the future is messing with the past. I think it is the never born that is really responsible and the never born is Cersei's baby
Kellie Kaschuk (3 months ago)
Im upset too. You are likely right and GOT show is gonna do a "LOST" and leave all the loose ends and no payoff to the bigger mysteries. 👎 However, I'd love to see Asshai before it went dark and creepy in the prequel...that be awesome..the before and after of Asshai
