10 Craziest Records Broken At The Winter Olympics

Unless you’re a member of a major professional sports league, much of your life will be exhausting your mental and physical capabilities for a mere chance at success. As an athlete, you will find no shortage of opportunities to compete and test yourself against others, but you will most likely fail. If you’re one of those rare competitors who succeed at a single level, there are still many more levels to conquer before you have that chance at greatness. And even once you’ve left all national competitors in your wake and have been invited to the Olympic qualifiers, competing against athletes from all over the world, you still need to place high, or you’ll wash out and fall back to zero, having to start over again or give up entirely. Further, even if you make the Olympics, greatness is achieved not merely by competing, or even medaling, but by breaking records. Then, only then, will your name not fade with the closing ceremony - and there will remain that ever-present chance that your triumph will be evoked by strangers, making the universe a little less lonely, and death a little less final. That’s what the following athletes feel – if we’re gracious enough to remember. Amazing 808 foot ski jump By Norwegian Johan Remen Evensen in February 2011 As a skydiver I can say that his body position in flight is perfect. In skydiving, what he is doing, is tracking. I would imagine that this discipline of skiing is closely related to skydiving, in particular tracking. I wish the Olympics would add skydiving as a summer game.

Winter Olympic - Ladies Single Skating ice Dance live 2018

02:41
Winter Olympic - Ladies Single(Alina Zagitova) Skating ice Dance live PyeongChang Winter Olympics South Korea (9-25 Feb). 2018 About ALINA ZAGITOVA :- GANGNEUNG, South Korea — Each Olympics brings at least one moment of unspeakable horror for many of those with the courage to browse the biographies of the athletes. The horror comes upon seeing a certain birth date, doing some quick arithmetic and realizing that the person born on the date in question is old enough to thrive in the Olympics without toppling or even teething. In that vein, the events of Wednesday at the Gangneung Ice Arena forced a glimpse to check the birth date of the brilliant Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova. Discretion is advised. Certain blocks of the readership may wish to avert eyes. Here: May 18, 2002. Some people walking around these Olympics wear clothing older than that. Yet the arithmetic shows that somebody born in May 2002 not only might be able to skate upon ice, but provide an Olympic audience with a show of an almost-celestial elegance, élan and expertise. Zagitova set a world record with her score of 82.92, then she said some things that sounded funny just because of that birth date. [It’s Alina Zagitova, Evgenia Medvedeva, then everybody else in short program] Asked about the time she had both a broken arm and a broken leg, she said, through an interpreter, “It happened a long time ago.” While one could make a case that nothing in her life could have happened a long time ago, she followed it up by saying, “It was like two to three years ago,” two to three years being a sizable chunk of her life thus far. Continuing: “And at that time I was in one competition, and even though at the time my arm was broken, I broke my leg once again at that place, as well, in that competition.”She’s tough. That’s clear. In the television interview just after her skate and the posting of her astronomical score, she said something else that might have gone a mite misunderstood in the translation, but it wound up emerging like this: “I think it’s very obvious that I have the most difficult program in the world. And the program was made by my trainers who work for me.” She did not seem the authoritarian type, to run around urging tiptop effort from trainers who work for her, but if she were, they probably should go ahead and obey anyway. In forging her record at age 15 years, 279 days, Zagitova called to mind Tara Lipinski — not that Lipinski really needs to be called to mind around here — winning the gold medal at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan, at age 15 years, 255 days. Zagitova also gave her countrywoman, co-favorite Evgenia Medvedeva, that rare chance to talk about a sort of a next generation. Medvedeva had skated before Zagitova, and had registered an 81.61, a world record that lasted about as long as a mayfly, maybe less. “Honestly, I think this is normal,” Medvedeva said even though, of course, nothing about their level of brilliance is normal. Continuing: “I think this is normal, and makes us stronger. And I remember myself and my first (major competition), and I remember my feelings. Everything is new for me and I really was so, happy, and I hope Alina is feeling the same as my feelings.” Thanks for watching A to Z Media https://www.facebook.com/A-to-Z-Media... https://www.instagram.com/accounts/edit/ https://twitter.com/AtoZMedia2

Intel’s Light Display Drones Capture World Record At The Winter Olympics

01:01
Intel stole the show at this year’s Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony in PyeongChang, South Korea, and at the same time captured a Guinness World Record for most simultaneous airborne drones: 1,218 in total. The team had two big challenges in making the project a reality: the extremely windy, snowy and icy weather conditions, and coordinating the significantly higher number of drones that would be involved (the team was used to working on shows with about 300 before the Winter Olympics project). The LED-equipped unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) drones Intel designed specifically for light shows were employed. The company plans to provide its Advanced Intel drone technology for the 2024 Olympic Games in the future. Viewing 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics through records

02:31
기록으로 보는 2018 평창동계올림픽 The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics closed its curtains on Sunday. Tons of dramatic moments have been captured and numerous historic records were broken. Let's turn to our Kim Mok-yeon for a recap. South Korea's second Olympics in thirty years has finally closed its curtains, ending its 17 day run. A record 2,920 athletes from 92 countries participated in 102 events across 15 different sports. The host country had 146 athletes competing, three times more than it had at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. North Korea also re-entered the Olympic stage for the first time in 8 years, with 22 athletes competing in five events. In terms of the medal tally.., A total of 102 gold medals were up for grabs this year-- the first time over 100 gold medals have been handed out at a Winter Olympics. And over 30 different nations took home at least one medal. Norway won a whopping 39 medals at PyeongChang 2018, beating the U.S.A's record of 37 in 2010, to become the country that earned the highest number of medals in a single Winter Olympics. South Korea also clinched the most medals in its Winter Olympic history, with a total of 17 medals -- five gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze. And dozens of new records were set. Three world records and 25 Olympic records were broken in the ice sports events. 6 new Olympic records were made in speed skating and 15 more in short track speed skating including the three world records. Wu Dajing won China's first gold medal in the men's 500 meters, finishing with a world record of 39.584 seconds. The Netherlands women's 3000 meters short track relay team also set a world record time of 4 minutes, 3.471 seconds. South Korean athletes broke Olympic records in five short track events, with Olympic champion Choi Min-jeong breaking the record twice in the women's 500 meter event. There were also many significant 'firsts' in the winter games. South Korea's iron-man Yun Sung-bin took the host nation's first gold in not only skeleton but in any Olympic sledding event,... finishing 1.63 seconds ahead of the silver medalist from Russia. And the famous women's curling team also clinched South Korea's first medal for the event, in only the country's second Olympic curling appearance. And finally, South Korean alpine snowboarder Lee Sang-ho became the first Asian to win an Olympic medal in a men's alpine snowboarding event. Kim Mok-yeon, Arirang News. Norway's Surprising Curling Victory over Canada | Day -1 | Winter Olympics 2018 | PyeongChang

03:31
Canada and Norway met in their first round robin match of the mixed doubles Curling. Canada's Kaitlyn Lawes and her team mate John Morris both won curling Gold in the Team event at the 2014 Sochi Games, and so were expected to challenge for a medal. But, their opponents Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten showed early on that they would be difficult to beat. Norway went into the final end with a one-point lead, but Canada had the hammer. Skaslien's last delivery saw two of their stones stop close to each other in the centre of the house, making it extremely difficult for their opponents to remove them. Lawes throw didn't make enough contact with her own stone to knock it into the button, which gave Norway two points and a surprise victory. It ended Canada 6, Norway 9. Innsbruck 1964 Winter Olympic Games Universal Newsreel 1964-02-03

more at http://sports.quickfound.net/olympics_news.html "Winter Olympics - Records Fall At Innsbruck" First week of the 9th Winter Olympic Games, at Innsbruck, Austria. Figure skating, downhill skiing, slalom (Jean Saubert of the USA winning the Bronze medal), and bobsledding. From Universal Newsreel Volume 37 Release 10. 1964 Winter Olympics 1st week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp1NeY7mEYU&feature=youtu.be Public domain film from the US National Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_Winter_Olympics The 1964 Winter Olympics, officially known as the IX Olympic Winter Games (French: Les IXes Jeux olympiques d'hiver), was a winter multi-sport event which was celebrated in Innsbruck, Austria, from January 29 to February 9, 1964. The Games included 1091 athletes from 36 nations, and the Olympic Torch was carried by Joseph Rieder, a former alpine skier who had participated in the 1956 Winter Olympics. The Games were affected by the deaths of Australian alpine skier Ross Milne and British luge slider Kazimierz Kay-Skrzypeski, during training, and by the deaths, three years earlier, of the entire US figure skating team and family members... Games highlights - The games was opened by a concert performed by Vienna Philharmonic, under the baton of Karl Böhm. Beethoven's 7th Symphony and Mozart's 40th Symphony were performed in the opening concert. - Normally snowy Innsbruck was threatened by a lack of snow. The Austrian army carved out 20,000 ice bricks from a mountain top and transported them to the bobsled and luge runs. They also carried 40,000 cubic meters of snow to the Alpine skiing courses. The army packed down the slopes by hand and foot.[4] - Lidia Skoblikova won all of the women's speed skating events, an achievement not matched by a man until Eric Heiden at the 1980 Lake Placid Games. - Italian bobsleigh pilot Eugenio Monti distinguished himself by helping Britain's Tony Nash and Robin Dixon to win the gold medals when he loaned them an axle bolt to replace one that was broken. The Italians took bronze, but Monti was honored as the first recipient of the Pierre de Coubertin medal for sportsmanship. - Egon Zimmermann of Austria took the gold medal in the men's downhill alpine skiing event. - In the 4 man bobsled, the Canadian team won the gold medal with a total winning time of 4:14.46. - Norway's Knut Johannesen won the men's 5,000m speed skating event in an Olympic record time of 7:38.40. - Klavdiya Boyarskikh of the USSR earned three gold medals in cross-country skiing and, on the men's side, Finnish Eero Mäntyranta won two and earned the nickname "Mr. Seefeld" after the venue because of his domination. - In alpine skiing, French sisters Christine and Marielle Goitschel finished first and second in both the slalom and the giant slalom. - Ski jumping gained a second event, and the sport of luge made its Olympic debut. - Politically, the Games were notable because East and West Germany entered a combined team. - The USSR won the most medals and the most gold medals at the Games. - For the first time the Closing Ceremonies were held at a different place than the Opening Ceremonies... Prior tragedies Two tragedies prior to the 1964 Winter Olympics affected the outcome and mood of the Games: Australian alpine skier Ross Milne and British luge slider Kazimierz Kay-Skrzypeski died during training shortly before the Games started. The organising committee said that Ross crashed into a tree during a training run. The IOC suggested that inexperience may have played a role in Ross's death, whereas Australian manager John Wagner suggested that overcrowding played a role, saying that he tried to slow down "on a spot which was not prepared for stopping or swinging" to avoid a crowd of contestants. His brother Malcolm Milne competed at the 1968 and 1972 Winter Olympics. On February 15, 1961, the entire US Figure Skating team and several family members, coaches, and officials were killed when Sabena Flight 548 crashed in Brussels, Belgium en route to the World Championships in Prague. This tragedy sent the US skating program into a period of rebuilding. The loss of the U.S. team was considered so catastrophic for the sport that the 1961 World Championships were cancelled, and impacted later Winter Olympics...
