How I Taught Myself to Make Video Games
In this clip, I talk about how I learned how to make video games. It was a process of trial and error, and learning was done through web resources and books. It doesn't take a genius, and anyone who tells you that is either trying to promote themselves or doesn't understand the learning process. Truthfully, anyone can learn to build games if they really want to. If you want to learn to make your own games, I provide a 4 step process that will take you from start to finish... multiple times. A Video Game That Teaches You How To Code
"Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think,” Steve Jobs said in 1995. But for a beginner, learning to code can be intimidating. Enter CodeSpells. UC San Diego's Sarah Guthals has developed this video game to teach people how to code. The story line is simple: you’re a wizard that uses spells (i.e. code) to navigate through the world, fight off foes, and solve problems. While experienced coders can delve deep into the programming to create some truly devastating spells, newbies can easily experiment with the simple drag-and-drop coding interface. The research highlighted in this video has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation I-Corps grant. http://codespells.org — To get updates and information about CodeSpells http://learntomod.com — A similar software developed by us to teach coding through Minecraft http://thoughtstem.com — Getting CS education into your classroom/school FEATURING: Sarah Guthals, alum of the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego --- Why Science Needs Art: https://youtu.be/-junNCPl3Zs Subscribe! http://bit.ly/1fUWHyY Fig. 1 explores new ideas and research out of the University of California — ranging from science, technology, art and humanities. What Code Should I Learn to Make Games?
What code should I learn to make games? Have you been watching the talks about kids making a cheap game, listing it on iTunes and making a million dollars? Making something like Bejeweled doesn't seem hard, and there are people making a lot of money in it. Not always a lot of money, but you can make money in it. People spent about twenty billion dollars on video games each of the past few years, while top games like "Call of Duty" and "Mario Brothers" make more money that blockbuster movies. I heard that programmers in the gaming industry can make decent money. Now you're talking about a career. Because of the novelty factor, companies keep churning out games. That makes it steady employment. For the industry, yes, for companies, no. Realistic immersion games and kid games compete for the top spots, while addictive Flash games are an economic flash in the pan. So what do I need to learn? C#, C++ and Java are the best ones that have simple games you can make yourself via tutorials. I guess I need an A in the C languages to get somewhere. But I heard I need to learn DirectX. DirectX is a collection of programming interfaces for multimedia in gaming like linking user actions to special effects, audio, character 3D models and the game's environment. I saw a talk by a kid who invented Bustin Jeiber without knowing how to code. He used the iPhone software development kit. They tried to make it easier to create apps without knowing Python, Java and C. I think I'd like to put something in the Appstore. You'll need to learn Objective-C for the iPhone and Java if you want to work on Android. So that's why I heard someone promoting an app saying they have to find someone to put it on the other device. But C is one of the best languages to learn; it is used almost everywhere while it teaches you how to program both apps and hardware. It's hard to learn. Learn the discipline with the first language, and you'll waste less time debugging and recompiling code later. And you can use it whether you create games, OS or the Appstore.

Game Development in Python 3 With PyGame - 1 - Intro
In this video, we introduce how to make video games with the Python programming language and the PyGame module to make video games. Python makes for a great programming language to use when learning game development because of its simple syntax. Learning game development is also a great way to learn how to program. Video games usually incorporate mathematics, physics , sometimes artificial intelligence, and a lot of logic. Most importantly, they can be an enjoyable way to learn all of this. Now the installation for Pygame from one of the websites shared uses wheel (whl) files instead of executables. To install the wheel file: Download the .whl that matches your python version and bit version. Once downloaded: Either use this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnpC_Ib_lbc or.. Extract the .whl file, you should see a "pygame" directory. If you do not have a program that can extract it, use something like 7-zip. Move the Pygame directory to: C:/Python34/Lib/site-packages/ See http://pythonprogramming.net for sample code PyGame with Python 3 Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQVvvaa0QuDdLkP8MrOXLe_rKuf6r80KO http://seaofbtc.com http://sentdex.com http://hkinsley.com https://twitter.com/sentdex Bitcoin donations: 1GV7srgR4NJx4vrk7avCmmVQQrqmv87ty6

How to Learn to Code
Thanks to https://www.youtube.com/user/NerdyAndQuirky for the question! Shares appreciated! Twitters: https://twitter.com/cheerskevin There you go. Here’s the code that will get you past your first technical interview. By the way, don’t ever write things like that. So today, I got a question on Twitter, from Sabrina, widely known as the Nerdiest and Quirkiest person on YouTube And I got really excited, because this is a question I should be qualified to answer! I’ve been coding since I was a little kid; I’ve been working as a developer for the past eight years. I completed a computer science major (though I didn’t wrap up the degree), and I’ve given talks, tech reviewed many books, read and written tutorials. This is a question I should be qualified to answer. Surprisingly though, this is a really difficult question. And it’s one that developers get asked a lot by people who are looking to break into the field. "How on earth do I get started?" And there are two sort of stock replies, that I don’t think work very well. I want to talk quickly about both of them. The first one is: get a degree! Study the fundamentals of computer science. If you want to develop game engines, you have to learn vector calculus. If you want to work on systems engineering, you have to learn boolean algebra. Study your algorithms! The problem with this approach is that most developers are inherently lazy. That’s why they program computers to do things for them. It’s very hard to get invested in software when you’re not actually making something you’re excited about. A lot of people will say "Learn C" or "Learn JavaScript", or learn some other language or toolset. And usually that’s because it’s a tool that they use, to solve problems that they are excited about. Programming languages are a lot like human languages. Just because you can read and write in French doesn’t make you a French novelist. And in the same way, just because you know the syntax of a programming language does’t mean you can solve problems with it. There are a lot of languages out there, and they’re all designed around solving particular problems. But unlike human languages, most of them are designed to be somewhat friendly to people who don’t already speak the language. Let’s use "Hello, World!" as an example. "Hello, World!" is usually the first program you’re going to write when you look at a new language. All you want is for the program to output "Hello, World!", and that’s kindof the basic test to know you’ve got something that runs. So let’s pull up some examples. What I want you to notice is that even if you don’t know anything about programming, you can tell that these are all pretty darned similar. And what I think a lot of developers forget to tell you is that eighty to ninety percent of what you learn programming in one language, is going to be transferrable to another language. We all tend to have our favorites — I tend to like Ruby, JavaScript, and Elixir — but don’t listen to people who say "You have to learn this or that", because those preferences are based on personal preference, and the problems those people are trying to solve. So I’ve argued that it’s not a great idea to try and force people into studying a particular academic field, or prodding them toward our favorite languages. But then where do we start? There’s a lot of information out there, and it can be very overwhelming. I’m here to tell you that you don’t actually want to learn to program. What you want to do is solve a problem. Maybe there’s an app on your phone that you don’t like, and you want to come up with a better solution. Maybe you’ve decided that you want to have a website. Or maybe you want to build a game. Learning "programming" is like practicing scales. It’s going to make you a very strong musician, but if you do that for years without ever playing a song, you’re going to get very frustrated. It’s a lot easier to learn something when you have a reason to want to know it. For me, the first problem was high school math tests. I’d be using my TI calculator; I’d show my work; I’d make a little tiny mistake, and I’d get the wrong answer. That was a problem I wanted to solve. So I learned TI-BASIC, and I wrote some programs that would factor and foil and all that stuff. That way, when I found my answer, I could go ahead and check that it was right. It was so much easier to learn that language, because I was using these tools to solve an actual problem that I had. I was excited to figure out ways to make it better and faster. So before you look at programming at all, figure out a problem that you’re excited about. Something that’s going to motivate you to learn about the languages and tools available. And once you’ve built that really cool thing, you’re going to discover that you accidentally picked up a lot of skills along the way.

In this series you will learn how program in C# in unity to create awesome games. Writing scripts is one of the most important process of creating games in unity3d game engine. If you learn C# from ground up , you can create amazing games in unity. C# coding gives you a lot of control over unity, which you can use to do whatever you want in your game. If you are starting with unity game development scripting, you should start learning C# instead of javascript. C# allows you to write scripts for unity in a more organised way, which would help you to understand your game code later. If you want to be a game programmer then Unity and C# is a great way to start learning about various game development principles. Unity is a full fledged game engine, you can do anything you want, and when you have the power of C# in it, you can achieve anything easily. You can write more robust, readable, faster executable code for unity game development. You may have seen that Unity official tutorials also use C#, since it's better to write code in C# than javascript. javascript is a more free-form language, it gives you more freedom which is not that good in long run. If you want to write better code for unity game development, then you should write your code in unity with C#. C# is a great language developed by Microsoft for it's .net platform, and unity uses it as a scripting language. Thanks a lot for watching this video, if you have any questions, write those in comments. I hope you enjoyed. Please subscribe and like , comment , share.

Learn To Code And Make 3D Games In Unity Game Engine
BACK US ON INDIEGOGO: http://bit.ly/2kgUnPD My Master Unity By Building 6 Fully Featured Games From Scratch was a HUGE success. However, it is only focused on 2D games and my students on udemy and you guys here on youtube have been asking me when will you create a Unity 3D course? When do you plan to create 3D games? Can you do a 3D infinite runner game in unity? Well I heard you guys, and I am going to do it, in fact I am going to create the most comprehensive Unity3D course on the internet. This course is going to be unique because it will offer a lot of features you can't find anywhere else, such as melee battle systems, boss fights, procedural level generation, enemy AI(basic and advanced), and if I reach my stretch goal I will create a first person shooter with all features such as selecting different weapons, selecting different levels, and enemy AI where enemies will shoot at us and be able to navigate the levels.

The Right Way to Learn Code | Brian Underwood, Max Ptacek & Ben Makarechian | TEDxYouth@SHC
Ben Makarechian, Brian Underwood, and Max Ptacek tell the story of their experiences trying to create a virtual reality dodgeball game with little knowledge of computer code. They share the methods they used to teach themselves coding so students around the world can learn on their own. Brian Underwood is currently an 8th grader at Hillbrook School. He has always had an interest in science, technology and coding, and has become even more interested with the releases of virtual reality headsets. In his TEDx Talk, he and his friends talk about empowering students through coding and what schools could do better to inspire kids to code. In his free time, Brian enjoys programming, water polo, and hanging out with his friends. Max Ptacek is an 8th grader at Hillbrook School in Los Gatos, California. He loves all things technological and mechanical, and he has always loved the concept of VR. His passion for video games led him to join his friends in creating their own game. In his talk, he and his friends will talk about empowering kids through code, how schools are teaching kids coding wrong, and how that can be fixed. He hopes he can inspire children and adults alike to try their hand at coding. Ben Makarechian is an 8th grade student at Hillbrook School in Los Gatos, California. For the last two years, his passions have been playing sports, exercising, and computer programming. In his talk with Brian Underwood and Max Ptacek, he describes how his own experiences with programming were enhanced by connecting it to his passions. He and his group also outline how they hope others can enjoy learning to code by connecting projects to an existing passion. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Best Coding Language to Learn for Games
What is the best coding language to learn for games? Perhaps the easiest one would be JavaScript. You can take the lessons they offer on Khan Academy. That website teaches science and math lessons for Common Core math. They also teach coding for kids, so you ought to be able to pick it up from them. A cute five minute video on what a programming language is is not going to do me much good. It is a series of lessons on HTML5 and JavaScript that get you to the point of creating a web based game for the web. That’s more than what a lot of other language resources do, and if ten year olds can do it, so can you. So easy a kid can do it is not the normal selling point of a programming language. If you’re looking for a more advanced language, learn Java. It is used for everything from game apps to server side applications. Games may be hosted on the server. I mean more like applications to pull data off a server such as someone’s timecard or ordering system, but you can make games with it, too. At least learning that gives me a heads up on jobs other than making an app and hoping for enough downloads to pay my rent. A classic choice is C. I’d get an F in any programming language that hard. C is used to make operating systems. It is also used for gaming. C++ is more commonly used for shoot-em-up games and fast paced action games where the sound needs to keep up with the action. The pluses are for extra levels of difficulty. C is close to the machine level, which gives you quick control over drivers, but it also comes with a huge vocabulary, complicated syntax and massive security holes when you do not use it right. So use C# to create web based games. I’d rather use Java than use C, an ultra hard programming language, on the dot-net framework by Microsoft. At least then, people would know what I did - Because they see Java updating so often on their PCs. What else could I do? You could learn Swift, the replacement language for Objective C. Apple even put out free books online and classes on iTunes University to get people to use it. There are not as many resources for how to develop games for it. And I do not want to use Apple. So learn Java, because that’s the primary platform for mobile games on Android. It is not easy, but it has a high payoff in the end, either in downloads or dollar signs.
